Spells to Die For Witch Brew Cozy Mystery Book 2 eBook CC Dragon

I don't think this was the best 'cozy mystery' series I've read - I've liked very few of these type, to be honest - but this was just lame. The characters are shallow and glib, with no more depth than when they were introduced in the first book. Claudia was annoying after a while, and the build-up about her secret turned out to be a dud IMHO.

**SPOILER ALERT** The author tries to drum up some interest about the heroine's secret by making it a bigotry issue for her love interest. But since his character has no depth either, my reaction was, "Oh, just another handsome jerk - drop him like a hot potato, honey." Which she does, thankfully, but the splitting-up scene was as shallow as the two of them.

The writing here isn't good enough to make me care about these people. Right after reading this I chose a historical romance by Mary Balogh, and it was so much better (and this wasn't even one of her best books). In contrast to CC Dragon's cardboard characters, Balogh's people felt real, the dialogue was witty. Balogh kept me interested in what was happening even though the HEA ending is always the same.

I wish "Spells" had been better written. I liked the Gypsy element to the series and the delineation of paranormal responsibilities. But for me, Book 2 pointed up all the same deficiencies as Book 1, with Claudia as unlikable as ever.

Spells to Die For Witch Brew Cozy Mystery Book 2 eBook CC Dragon Reviews

Spells to Die For is a wonderful cozy mystery filled with terrific characters you want to know more about. In this installment coffee house owner and witch Claudia Crestwood is bound and determined to uncover the secret her family is hiding from her. And of course there is a murder to clear up and then there is her boyfriend Bran and his family to deal with. I love that Claudia is not a pushover and is true to herself. I really look forward to more adventures at the Witch's Brew.
Well worth reading.
I bought the 2nd one after a free trial of the 1st. I am no murder mystery reader. I like this series so far.
Great product, great service, good price.
Loved the first Claudia Cresswell book which was part of an anthology so purchased the second book to see if the storyline was as good. The world of witches, gypsies, weres, vamps and mysteries that CC has created continues to entertain can't wait for the next one.
CC Dragon continues her story of witches, werewolves and vampires who like secrets and murder on a regular basis. This mystery has two central themes related to Claudia's search for a long held secret no one wants to reveal to her. In order to find the secret she needs to solve a murder. Not everyone is as they present themselves and that includes her new boyfriend Bran.
I first want to say that I haven't read many Cozy Mysteries and didn't realize these books were in that category. I picked them up because I like C C Dragon's work.
I have enjoyed the first two books in this series very much, but I feel like they are just way too short to be considered full books. Together, they'd be one tight, satisfying, decently sized read!
C C Dragon's paranormal world and the characters are full of rich details & believable backstories and I eagerly fell into this story!
All of a sudden however, the solution to the mystery pops up barely explained. Then, (in books 1 & 2 anyway), the mystery and all the storylines are packed up neatly into their proper place so fast that I pop right out of sync with what was a minute or so earlier, really fun and engrossing. This takes the 'believable fantasy' away for me.
For the Characters I'd give 5 Stars, writing plan 2 or 3 Stars actually.
